Amazon Reviews

I read this book in the depths of miserable wet spring, and it transported me to the beautiful, wild landscapes of the Alpujarras in Southern Spain. This is an honest account of buying a second home in an Alpujarran village, and years that follow, restoring the house, holidays there with a young family, exploring the region and making life-long friends. It’s well written and has a mix of every day stuff, interspersed with bits of history, and stories passed down from generation to generation, usually recounted to Marcus in bars by the wonderful characters he meets. Above all, this book has made me want to visit the Alpujarras, avoiding the touristy bits. I just wish my Spanish was up to it.
— Review on Between The Sierra & The Sea
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I loved the way it switches between time periods and gives the reader interesting glimpses into Spain’s past and it’s links with Mexico. The story was easy to follow and compelling. Another good book by Marcus Dalrymple.
— Review on In Gold's Name
I thoroughly recommend this book if you are looking for some escapism and a fast paced adventure. Very well written, pacey, but with fully developed characters and lots of local knowledge. A real page turner. I also enjoyed the moral dilemmas that were threaded throughout the novel.
— Review on State of Grace
This book is off to a flying start from page one - there are no slow sections, the drama keeps unfolding, rapidly. Marcus Dalrymple takes the reader on a convincing journey into the violent underworld of Mexico, Mexico City (the ‘DF’) and its border/links with the USA. The story is told through the eyes and actions of Toby White, who is British journalist working for Rights Watch, an agency monitoring human rights (and their abuse). From here Toby can see into the underworld, where lives are cheap, no-one can be trusted (without taking a risk) and the poor are exploited; Toby is unable to avoid or resist becoming involved. The author has done his research - the book leaves you thinking.... is the story really all ‘made-up’? It is very convincing: true fiction. A great read. I would recommend this book to anyone - especially those who do not read much and want a captivating story without a lengthy introduction. Finally, the book is nicely printed with a good font and layout. GO FOR IT!
— Review on The Border
A great read. Marcus brings alive the colours, flavours, spirit, and very essence of Mexico. For me personally he’s lighted a fire to want to return to Mexico, and Valle once again.
— Review on 'Viva Mexico!'
This novel is bulging with action and adventure from the first page. Set in authentic Mexico, relationships unfold, scenes rapidly change and the carefully researched web behind the story expands. This is a compelling - cannot put it down - thriller and ideal as a Summer holiday read. Give it a go!
